Why I Started Policy 360 Voices: A Personal Reflection

There are some people and communities who are constantly talked about in policy conversations, but rarely spoken with directly. Over the years, through my work across the community, voluntary and public sectors, I kept seeing the same pattern — people with lived experience often felt disconnected from the decisions shaping their lives.

That stayed with me.

Policy 360 Voices was created to help bridge that gap. Not by speaking for communities, but by creating space for people to speak for themselves — clearly, confidently and in ways that decision-makers cannot ignore.

Growing up in a working-class area of North Belfast shaped how I see the world. I understand what it feels like when politics feels distant, when systems feel difficult to navigate, and when people believe their voice will not make a difference. But I also know the strength, insight and resilience that exists within communities.

This work is about creating better connections between lived experience and policymaking. It is about helping organisations, women, families and communities engage with confidence, build influence, and shape conversations that matter to them.

Policy 360 Voices is still growing, but the vision is simple: stronger voices, better engagement, and policy shaped with communities — not simply around them.

As the organisation develops, this website will become a space to share stories, research, opportunities, events and ideas that support meaningful participation in public life.

This is only the beginning.
